Community Participation and Group Activities

Participating in a community or social group is something that occurs naturally when performing daily activities and interaction with those around you. People in supportive care may come across obstacles that prevent them from these natural social participations and could have an impact on their personal wellbeing. Our support workers can help those with barriers between themselves and going out to interact with the community by providing physical and emotional support to overcome those barriers and enjoy a fulfilling social life whether it is going to the shops, visiting friends and family, walking in the park or joining a local community club with people of similar interests.

Group and Centre activities involve the organisation of social events and gatherings based out of selected community centres and social club establishments. Group activities can be planned out on a set schedule, on specific days of the week and at familiar locations so that the participants can enjoy going out, socialising and sharing interests with others in a safe and monitored environment. Transport to and from these group activity centres can be arranged to make the transition from home life to group socialisation easy and fun for all those involved.

Innovative Community Participation is another form of social community activity that involves the organisation of larger outdoor events involving groups of people in the community. These events will encourage participation, physical activity and social interaction than normal group activities and could involve travelling to national parks or shopping centres. Activities that could be accessed with Innovative community participation could involve things such as picnics and barbeques, attending a local sporting event, occupational workshops to learn new skills or even a karaoke night.
